Summer Harvest Chronicles: A Gardener’s Devotion to the Backyard

Greetings gardeners, James here tuning in straight from Jersey, How’s it going? The cool thing about joining me here today is that we are taking a brief tour of my personal backyard garden. My little companion, Tuck together with me are all set to embark on a journey to enjoy our backyard garden summer harvest. Without further wasting time, let’s get on to the worst of backyard gardening in this case.

Tunnel Vision Dug In Tomato Farmland

I would like to talk about my all time favorite beefsteak tomato variety known as the Chef’s Choice Pink Tomato. Just feast on this one’s glory, which in fact isn’t even the best yet. Distracted by looking at this absolute beast of a tomato I almost forgot to mention, if you look to my right you will see a bright however crusted with ripe tomatoes. At this point it is hard to ignore that this space is extremely useful.

In addition, one apple tree at the farm is already bearing many late season apples which are almost ripe and ready for picking. Don’t you worry, I will most definitely grab several before I check this garden out one last time. This garden always manages to surprise me, there’s always something new to find.

>Mountain Magic Tomatoes and cutting down on space

In today’s post, I will make it a point to not forget to mention the mountain magic tomatoes, which have grown to be one of my favorite ever since I began cultivating. Just look at those clusters, this year happens to be the first year I grew mountain magic tomatoes so seeing the way they have managed to grow so quickly is quite frankly spectacular. These astonishing vines have begun to bear fruit right from the tip of the trellises.

On the topic of trellises, allow me to give you a word of advice regarding vertical gardening. I have used “lowering and leaning” utilizing a pruning technique on my tomatoes which allows me to grow them on single stem. This enables me to fully utilize all that vertical space and in return leads to greater output per single square foot. This is a game changer if you are constrained in terms of space but ambitious in terms of how much you want to yield.

The Cucumber Slicing

Other than this, let us turn to the cucumbers. At the end of the bed I have Suyo Long which is a type of cucumber and is being single strung. These things are beasts! Tuck’s already eyeing one for a snack; he is a fan of the smaller ones as they are easier for him to chomp on.

Additionally And that is not all. Cucumbers are starting to sprout all over especially in corners of the garden where they are not typically expected to grow. Mid the chicken pen, the vines are pretty much rampant and supply an abundance of fresh cucumbers.

The Tomato Variety Show

Looking at the tomatoes on offer this year, it is sense one is looking at an entire futures market, whether it is the Sunrise Bumblebee with its vivid array of tones or the Sweet’s Treats which has a delicate pale pink, everything is rich and inviting. There is also the Queen of the Night which is a one of a kind dark tomato but not very high yielding.

Including these, I also have Super Sweet 100s, Crazy Cherry tomatoes, and Brad’s Atomic Grape. They each have something offer, whether it is in taste and coloration or sheer volumes.

Eggplants, Squash & Companion Planting

And I can’t skip over the eggplants! In the case of eggplants this year, I will try growing an exotic variety known as Dr. Melanzane, which honestly resembles a tomato from afar. Then there is also the Zucchino Rampicante squash which is very good because you can have it in the summer or winter as it is not season specific.

To add on, there’s also the issue of companion planting. The combination of carrots and tomatoes together is a powerful concoction. I have carrots growing next to the cucumbers and am glad to report it is doing great. Tuck has even helped himself around the garden as he was able to grab a carrot, it seems to be one of his favorite snacks.

A Day in the Garden: Harvests, Insights, and Pure Joy

Wow, there is just too much beauty that nature constantly provides us from time to time. There is just so much to appreciate out here when we have bright tomatoes, rare cucumbers, and some great flowers as well.

The plants sure are doing fine and well. The squash girl, the bonbon tomatoes and everything else one can imagine appear to be nothing short of astonishing and perfection. There was one tomato today that stood out to me specifically One could say it is nearly ideal with the exception of a small flaw. I mean, it can’t really get closer to perfection than that!
