Heaven on Earth: A Day in My Garden

It’s all about making the most of what’s available, a lot of you ask me the size of the garden I am on about. The property I’m on is around one-third of an acre, and I garden almost a third of that which is roughly one-ninth of an acre. One might assume that it is bigger owing to the layers of the plants and all the fruit trees, but it is actually rather small. The layering method really makes a difference in getting the most out of my garden.

Tomatoes and Cucumbers in Full Swing

I’m looking at the younger plants which are looking even more promising, moving forward to another area of the garden. Look at this Jolene tomato plant. This particular determinate variety has been very prolific. The tomatoes are very consistent in their size and color, and the output is quite satisfactory as well. The plant is very healthy and I can’t wait to see how more of these look like at harvest time.

And then, whoa! Take a look at those cucumbers! Some of them have gone bad, but I’m still impressed by their dimension. It’s quite extraordinary! But don’t panic, there are more to be harvested and I am making sure that none is going to waste. I have also got some Corinto cucumbers coming in strong so there is plenty of cucumber goodness to go around.

Pommes, Courges et Plus Encore

Let us proceed to the Liberty Apple tree. I need to watch Zucchino Rampicante, those are not quite ready yet but I need to keep an eye on them later in the season. The Zucchino Rampicante is also looking fantastic. This squashes me is harvested during summer and winter season, and I love it because of its Italian origin. The sweet potatoes are growing in containers and also the Mountain Magic tomato is coming along quite nicely. There are eggplants too, look at those beautiful white eggplants and purple ones too! There is never a dull moment in this garden.

Whenever I pass through, one aspect that never ceases to fascinating me is the level of production that is taking place. Butternut squash is almost mature enough to be harvested while bon bon squash is actively spreading on the ground. There’s a sort of controlled disorder as vegetables and fruits are seen growing together. And in all honesty, it’s such an entertaining sight as they begin to grow and develop.

Potato, Cabbage and Other Harvesting

Certainly not the end, though. Even more potatoes remain to be harvested and I’ll do a complete potato harvest video shortly. But for now, let me show you a few of the lovely cabbages that I have got growing. These are ready for harvest and will be great cabbages to incorporate into my dishes. While we are at it, I also got impatient and decided to pull up a potato. I’m aware that most people would prefer to dig, but where’s the fun in that? These are astonishing! The size of these potatoes is unreal. This is just from one plant and there’s a lot more to go. This year, it’s going to be a massive potato haul!

Sweet Surprises, Peppers and Pears

Making our way through the garden, let’s next focus on the peppers. They are doing well in containers and I have quite a few of them starting from sweet banana peppers all the way to hot and sweet habanata peppers. There are even some seriously spicy paper lantern peppers.Sating all my hot peppers in pots because my dog Tuck cannot reach them.

I also have some nice sweet peppers that are nearly ripe, I’m looking forward to having.

Talking about snacks, let me discuss the Tajiro pear tree. This tree is full of fruits now, and although I am the one who erred by overdoing it and leaving a bit more than necessary, I am still left with plenty of fruits that are ripe enough for plucking. The taste is the sweetest, and succulent as well. Moreover, the garden has all the components including the multigrafted pear which has small 20th century pears but quite a lot of flavor packed in them. They taste so sweet as close to an apple but the taste is more of a pear.

Ending the Harvest

There is quite a lot to glean, but I will not take your own time. I could go on and on, but you get the idea – this is a food-laden garden, and I could not be more pleased at how well this is all coming together. Thank you for weathering with me and seeing what is in store at the garden for today. I hope you found something interesting or constructive for your own growing adventures

.

And here comes my greatest partner, Tuck again, before I close out. He’s always with me throughout my day even during the most scorching moments. Please do not omit making some kind comments about him in the comment section down below.
